Chateau Cantemerle’s blend for the 2021 vintage consists of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine is aged for a year in barrels, using a combination of 40% new, 40% one-year-old, and 20% two-year-old barrels, followed by an additional four months of vat aging. Vinous 91
The 2021 Cantemerle is floral, lifted and very pretty. Crushed flowers, red-toned fruit, spice, mocha and licorice take shape in a wine that impresses with its delineated, persistent personality. All the elements are nicely balanced. There is a bit of tightness on the finish, but overall, this is nicely done.

The 2021 Cantemerle is a very strong effort in a challenging year, offering up aromas of blackcurrants and plums mingled with hints of spice box, black truffle and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming, it’s supple and succulent, with a generous core of fruit and a saline finish. It’s sure to number among the sleepers of the vintage.
