Hennessy 8 Limited Edition Blend, Cognac

Made once and never again: 250 bottles, released from March 2016 to mark the handover of Hennessy's cellar from the 7th generation of Fillioux master blenders to the 8th. Yann Fillioux chose 7 eaux-de-vie, one for each generation before him; his nephew Renaud Fillioux de Gironde chose the 8th. The carafe is Arik Levy's design in hand-blown Baccarat crystal, cut with 8 inset rings. Its chest is built from oak staves off Hennessy's own cooperage at La Sarrazine, in 25 layers — one for each decade of the house's history — split by an irregular cut tracing the Charente through Cognac.

Producer profile
Hennessy was founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy, an Irishman who had served the French crown before settling on the quays of Cognac. He was not a distiller but a judge of other people's spirit: the house was built on selecting eaux-de-vie and shipping them out along the Charente.
