Macallan Horizon

The first release from The Macallan's partnership with Bentley Motors, and the most ambitious design the distillery has attempted: a horizontal vessel built around a 180-degree twist, set against every convention of what a whisky bottle looks like. 700 bottles worldwide. Six is the organising number — six first-fill European oak butts, six materials drawn from both houses (whisky, wood, copper, aluminium, leather and glass), the Six Pillars behind them, and a bottling strength chosen as a nod to the same. It carries no age statement, and deliberately so: the casks were chosen on character rather than years.

The Macallan's tasting notes: dried fruit and spice on the nose and palate, balanced with oak and leather; a long, complex finish of rich oak.

Producer profile
The Macallan has distilled single malt on the Easter Elchies estate in Speyside since 1824, under one of the first licences granted after the Excise Act. Its character rests on a narrow set of choices held to over generations: curiously small stills, a notably narrow spirit cut, and sherry-seasoned oak the distillery controls closely
