Premier Cru Classe
The term “First Growth” is a classification associated with the finest wines from the Medoc (and Haut-Brion from Graves), with only five wines earning this prestigious status: Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Haut-Brion, Château Latour, and Château Mouton Rothschild. The wines are produced from exceptional terroirs by the most outstanding winemakers.
a separate list classified 21 of the finest sweet wines from Bordeaux as Grand Crus Classés. Among these, nine wines, mainly hailing from the Sauternes and Barsac regions, were designated as Premier Cru, while 11 received the slightly lower but still esteemed rank of Deuxième Cru (Second Growth).
