1970-2015 Petrus collection

Wine-searcher average price: £ 3,576 / 750ml

Petrus, the pinnacle of Pomerol, stands as Bordeaux’s notable estate. With a Merlot base, it emanates richness, power, and flavors of chocolate, spice, and black fruit. Since 1837, Petrus has soared in prominence, becoming an iconic, collectible, and highly-priced wine, often surpassing Bordeaux first growths.

Petrus has adapted its oak usage over time. While it once used all new oak in the 1980s, the current approach involves around 50 percent new oak. After aging for 18 to 20 months in barrels, the wine is bottled without filtration.

1995 Romanee-Conti, La Tache Magnums

Robert Parker: 98/100
Jeannie Cho Lee: 96/100
Wine Spectator: 95/100

“This wine is mind-boggling and has gathered even more body, power, and density than it displayed from barrel. It is intensely profound, and super-ripe yet harmonious. Its extraordinarily long finish (it tails off with a sweet kirsch kiss) flabbergasted me. I could not help but think of the finishes of two wines I love – Chateau Rayas and Chateau Lafleur.” – Pierre Rovani – 95/100

2006 Romanee-Conti

“An extraordinary as well as extraordinarily intense aromatic display greets you from the glass of 2006 Romanee-Conti. Rose petals, griotte cherries, almond extract, mint, and cinnamon once again put me in mind of archetypal pinot with a soupcon of Gewurztraminer. The remarkable perfume and spice continue inner-mouth, allied to a silken textural refinement (as if the tannins were self-dissolving); to pure, fresh, but not at all superficially sweet cherry and raspberry essence; and to deep, marrowy meatiness and hints of truffle and forest floor. This pivots at midpoint, as it were – though far more subtly than does its Richebourg sibling – from perfume and fruit to almost sinister animal and mineral suggestions. The finish here is at once positively ethereal and deeply, darkly mysterious, like lingering harmony at the extremes of audibility. I suspect it will also outlive the other wines from this estate and vintage.” – Antonio Gallonini – 95/100
