Product Description

The 2000 Chateau Leoville Las Cases is a full-bodied Bordeaux blend consisting of nearly 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.4% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc. It still has a youthful ruby/purple color and has the potential to age gracefully for many years, possibly until 2050.

Tasting Notes

Vinous 97

The 2000 Leoville Las Cases is a vintage that I have encountered a dozen or so times. Jean-Hubert Delon oversaw a magnificent wine in this year. The nose of graphite-infused black fruit is still vivacious and very complex, very Pauillac-like, and supremely well focused. Hints of licorice develop with aeration. The medium-bodied palate features sappy black fruit and perfectly judged acidity. Complex and delineated, with marine-tinged mulberry and black currant notes given a deft Oriental touch on the finish. Bottles are only just beginning to drink perfectly now and will last another 30 or more years. [Neal Martin, 22/09/2021]

Anticipated maturity: 2021-2050

Robert Parker 98

Tasted blind as a vintage comparison at the Valandraud vertical, the 2000 Leoville-Las-Cases is a quite fabulous, magisterial Saint Julien that is only just beginning to flex its muscles. It has a very intense and beautifully defined bouquet with mineral rich blackberry and bilberry scents, outstanding focus and harmony, and very well-integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, impressive backbone and focus in situ. There is a touch of mint infusing the fruit here, superb tension with a touch of mulberry and Hoi Sin lingering on the finish that still feels backward and sinewy. What was remarkable was to observe the melioration in the glass, achieving wondrous energy and delineation with time, still improving after a couple of hours. Buy it, cellar it, drink it. Tasted December 2016. [Neal Martin, 28/09/2017]

Anticipated maturity: 2025-2060
