Champagne
Legend has it that Benedictine monk Dom Perignon called to his fellow friars “Come quickly, I am tasting the stars!” when he first encountered the phenomenon of sparkling wine in around 1700.
Made in France’s most northerly quality wine producing region and unarguably produces the benchmark in fizz across the globe, vehemently protecting any reference to the term Champagne being used elsewhere.
But for all the fame and unquestionable quality it is only in the last few years that we have seen the great names such as Dom Perigon, Armand de Brignac, Krug, Roederer Cristal & Bollinger being noted not only for their drinking pleasure but as real investment opportunities having the ability to age and mature alongside the greatest still wines.
